How to Install Astro Turf
Lawns can be a lot of work. Not only do they need regular watering to stay green, but they also need mowing and weeding on a regular basis. If you’re not up to the job or hassle of maintaining a lawn, you might consider installing an artificial turf, such as AstroTurf. The synthetic carpet is designed to withstand the elements day in and day out. While it looks like grass, it doesn’t need all the maintenance that a real grass lawn requires.

1
Dig out any sod in the area where you will be installing the Astroturf, ensuring you also pull up any weeds that may be present. Make sure to get any debris, such as stones and sticks, out of the way as well. If, on the other hand, you are installing the carpeting on a cement or asphalt surface, simply sweep the area to make sure it’s clear of debris.
-
2
Put down a thin layer of crushed rocks if laying the AstroTurf on top of soil. Compact the stones down to create a level surface. Skip this step if laying the AstroTurf on top of cement or asphalt.

3
Lay out the AstroTurf as you would carpeting. Use your feet as you roll out the AstroTurf to make sure it’s laying flat against the ground. Pull it to eliminate any wrinkles you see.
-
4
Spread sand on top of the AstroTurf if it is laid out on top of soil and crushed rocks. The sand will keep the carpeting in place and helps with water drainage. If you laid the carpet on top of cement or asphalt, glue down the edges of the carpeting with special glue made for this specific purpose. You can find it in any landscaping or hardware store. Then proceed to add the sand as previously described.
