      Clean marble with a sponge soaked in 1 to 2 cups of warm water mixed with 5 drops of mild dishwashing soap to remove dirt and debris. Thoroughly cleaning the marble before polishing will enhance the stone's sheen.

      Remove stubborn stains by applying a small amount of hydrogen peroxide to the discolored area. Leave on the marble for 1 to 2 minutes. Wipe clean with a damp sponge and pat until thoroughly dry.

      Coat countertop surfaces with marble specific polish. Rub the polish onto the stone's surface using a circular motion. Allow the polish to dry for 2 to 3 minutes. Wipe off with a dry cotton cloth. Marble polish may be purchased in a grocery or home improvement store in the household cleaners aisle. Polishing marble floors is difficult and should be done by a professional floor cleaning company.
