How to Make a Rose From a Small Piece of Ribbon

How to Make a Rose From a Small Piece of Ribbon thumbnail
Transform any ribbon into a rose.

Ribbons can be tied, molded and used for almost anything. With a small piece of wired ribbon, you can turn a ribbon into a simple and delicate rose. These roses are often used as party favors or wedding decorations, and to add color to a fancy hairdo. Instead of going out and buying the roses from a arts and craft store, simply purchase the ribbon and make them yourself.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Tie a knot approximately one inch from the bottom of one end of the ribbon.

    • 2

Poke the wire through one side of the ribbon on the opposite end as the knot. Push the fabric back until you have about two inches of wire sticking through.

    • 3

Hold onto the wire with one hand. With the other, push the fabric down the wire towards the knot at the end of the ribbon. Because the wire is still through one side of the ribbon, the ribbon will begin to curl towards the center of the ribbon, circling around it.

    • 4

Continue to push the fabric until it cannot be pushed any further. At this point, you'll notice the rose has formed, circling around the knot in the ribbon.

    • 5

Wrap the exposed wire from the ribbon around the base of the knot to secure the rose in its position.

    • 6

Stick one end of the florist tape just above the wrapped wire on the knot. Begin twisting the florist tape down the entire knot and exposed wire and over the ribbon coming down from the middle of the knot.

    • 7

Adjust the rose's petals so they look good to you. Pinch them to give them a "rosebud" look, or pull them apart to make them look opened.
