How to Dye Plexiglass

You can use Plexiglas in many different projects from jewelry, shadow boxes, art, and anything else you can imagine. To dye the Plexiglas, you need to cut it into small manageable pieces; you can use a coping saw or rotary blade. Wear old clothing you do not mind staining and vinyl disposable gloves. You can purchase the Plexiglas from most home improvement or craft stores.

Instructions

    • 1

Fill an old pot with one cup of water. Add one teaspoon of dish soap and one packet of fabric dye.

    • 2

Bring mixture to a boil. Remove pot from heat.

    • 3

Drop in your Plexiglas pieces one at a time, taking care not to let them sit on top of each other.

    • 4

Leave the Plexiglas sitting in the mixture undisturbed for 10 minutes. Check your Plexiglas to see if it has reached your desired color. If not, allow it to sit for another 10 minutes.

    • 5

Fill a container with clean water and one teaspoon of dish soap. Use a slotted spoon to remove the Plexiglas pieces one at a time. Drop them into the container.

    • 6

Remove the piece from the container and place on paper towels to dry completely.
