Use your last paycheck stub to file income taxes in Georgia.

To file your state taxes in Georgia, you need to provide information that is contained on your W2 form. The IRS recommends that employers send W2s to their employees no later than Jan. 31 of each year. If you do not receive your W2 by Feb. 14, you can request that the IRS contact your employer concerning the matter. If your employer still neglects to send you a W2, it is still your responsibility to file your taxes before the April 15 deadline based on your best computations. You can use your last paycheck stub to ensure that your computations are correct.

Instructions

    • 1

Ensure that you have a check stub that reflects income received for the entire year. Otherwise, you may enter erroneous information on your tax forms, which can result in penalties later.

    • 2

Obtain Georgia tax form 500 or 500EZ. The exact form you need depends upon your age, filing status, number of exemptions you are claiming, the amount of your annual income, whether or not you have any adjustments that need to be made, and whether or not you lived in the state of Georgia the entire year. You can obtain a copy of these forms from the Georgia Department Of Revenue website.

    • 3

Complete the tax form by entering information into all of the designated fields. Enter your employer's EIN (Employer Identification Number). You can obtain this number from a prior year's W2 form. If you don't have a prior year's W2, you can try contacting your employer directly to get the EIN.

Under “Annual Gross Income,” enter the “Year To Date” income that is showing on your last paycheck stub. Under “State Tax Withheld,” enter the amount of taxes that show in the “GA Withholding Year To Date” section.

Sign and date your completed tax form.

    • 5

Mail the tax form to the Georgia Department Of Revenue. You can include a letter with your tax form advising the Georgia Department Of Revenue that you did not receive a W2 from your employer. Advise in the letter that your tax computations were made to the best of your ability by using a copy of your last paycheck stub. Include a copy of your last paycheck stub with the completed tax form in lieu of your W2.
