If you want your home to smell good, try using incense. You can make your own incense oil right at home. It is quick and cheap to make, and will provide a beautiful aroma throughout your house. You can use homemade incense oil with incense sticks or cones. The great part about making your own incense oil is that you get to customize the fragrance just how you like it.

  • Glass container
  • Dipropylene glycol (DPG)
  • Fragrant oil

      Pour 3 parts Dipropylene Glycol (DPG) and 1 part fragrant oil into the glass container. DPG is a carrier oil that can be purchased at craft stores, health food stores and various online retailers. You can use any type of fragrant oil you would like. Common incense oils are patchouli, cedar wood, cinnamon and amber.

      Use a spoon to thoroughly mix the ingredients.

      Put the incense sticks or cones in the oil and let them soak for 24 hours. Let the sticks or cones dry thoroughly for at least 48 hours before burning.

Tips & Warnings

  • Do not use undiluted fragrant oil for burning incense. Without the carrier oil, there will be excessive smoke.

  • About 16 oz. of the incense oil will be good for around 500 sticks or cones. You can store unused oil for future use in an air-tight container.
