How to Get a Restraining Order in Flagstaff, Arizona
When you live in the city of Flagstaff, Arizona you have the right to live without being harassed and without feeling that your safety is in jeopardy. When those rights are violated by another individual, you can request a restraining order against that individual. The city of Flagstaff refers to the restraining order as an "Order of Protection." An Order of Protection is an enforceable legal document that requires an individual keep his distance from you and those who are close to you, such as family, friends, and coworkers. Once issued, the order is effective for one year.

Visit the Flagstaff Municipal Court. The court is located at 15 North Beaver Street. The telephone number is (928) 774-1401. The court is open for business Monday through Friday from 7:30am to 4:30pm. It will take about 45 minutes to complete the process that is required to get an Order of Protection. Therefore, it is recommended that you arrive no later than 4:15pm.

Go to the “Orders Of Protection” office that is located in the Municipal Court building.

Request that the court clerk provide you with an "Arizona Petition For An Order Of Protection" if the person you are fearful of a spouse or someone you have been in an intimate relationship with. Otherwise, request a form for "Injunction Against Harassment." If the harassment is occurring in the workplace, request an "Injunction Against Workplace Harassment."

Complete the petition form. You will have to enter information such as your name and address, the defendant's name and address, and your reason for requesting an order or protection. Be specific on the form concerning any recent and historical episodes of domestic violence or harassment. Include the names of other individuals you want the person to stay away from.

Ask the court clerk for a “Confidential Address Sheet” if you fear that disclosing your address will jeopardize your safety.

Submit the completed petition (and confidential address sheet if applicable) to the court clerk. Wait until the clerk calls you forth to meet with the judge. The judge will then review your paperwork and advise you of whether or not she is granting your request. If the judge grants your request, local law enforcement will deliver a copy of the protective order to the defendant.
