How to Make a Silk Wedding Bouquet

How to Make a Silk Wedding Bouquet thumbnail
Wedding bouquets are beautiful but can be pricey.

Wedding bouquets are traditionally carried by the bride, maid of honor and bridesmaids. Tossing a wedding bouquet into a sea of women is a wedding day tradition that predicts the next lucky lady to become a bride. Wedding bouquets can be pricey, especially during the summer months when weddings are at their peak. Visit your local arts and crafts store to pick your own decorative items and silk flowers and, using your imagination and creativity, construct your own wedding day bouquets.

Instructions

    • 1

Choose the kind of flower you want to carry during the ceremony. Your bouquet does not have to match the centerpieces on the tables at the ceremony. If you are choosing a flower that comes in a variety of colors such as roses, be sure to choose a color that will match your color scheme.

    • 2

Pick up one flower at a time with one hand and use the other hand to hold them.

    • 3

Gather four flowers and hold them so the flowers are all the same height—these flowers will be the centerpiece of the bouquet.

    • 4

Place the additional flowers around the centerpiece and create a dome effect.

    • 5

Secure the flowers together using a rubber band or tape approximately 3 to 4 inches below the blooms.

    • 6

Repeat the previous step at the bottom of the stems, leaving approximately 2 inches for trimming.

    • 7

Cut the excess stems with scissors for a clean cut. You should have approximately 7 to 8 inches of stem left after the trim.

    • 8

Cut a piece of ribbon that will fall within your chosen color scheme that is approximately three times the length of the stems.

    • 9

Tuck one end of the ribbon into the rubber band or tape just beneath the blooms and wrap it down the stems in a spiral fashion. Once you reach the bottom of the stems, wrap the ribbon back up the stems. Tuck the remaining portion of ribbon into the fastener as used before.

    • 10

Attach the ribbons to the flowers by pushing straight pins through the ribbon and the stems.

    • 11

Spread the flower blooms to give the bouquet a full look.

Tips & Warnings

  • To get a better idea of how the bouquet will appear upon completion, stand in front of a mirror as you assemble the arrangement. This will allow you to make any necessary corrections as your proceed before you secure them together.

  • Be careful when using scissors or a blade to cut the stems. Your beautiful arrangement can sometimes block your view and cause you to knick a finger. The last thing you want is blood on the ribbon or the bloom of one of your flowers.
