Hollow Wall Anchor Instructions

Pre-drill a hole into the wall with a drill and drill bits. The hole should be the same size as the molly bolt you will use, so this will vary by project.

Insert the molly bolt into the hole. Gently tap the molly into place with a hammer until the head of the bolt is flush with your wall. This will firmly secure the teeth of the molly bolt to the wall.

Turn the molly bolt’s screw counterclockwise with a slotted screwdriver. This turning motion expands the molly’s legs and pulls them toward the inner wall, securing the bolt in place from the inside. Stop screwing when the resistance becomes too strong to turn. The bolt is now secured to the hollow wall and ready to hold weight.

The size of molly bolt you need can vary depending on what you intend to hang. If you are unsure about what to use, consult a professional at a hardware or home improvement store.
If you do not have a drill bit small enough to match your molly bolt, pre-drill your hole with an awl.
Hardware and home improvement stores will sell a tool called a molly setter, which will expand the molly in place of a screwdriver.
Most molly bolts will allow you to use either a Phillips-head or slotted screwdriver, but Phillips heads run the risk of slipping and scratching the wall.
