How to Fly Karts in Mario Karts
In all versions of Mario Kart, there are periods of time when a cart "jumps" open areas. However, in the Nintendo DS version, there are various ways to do "flying" tricks that are unique, i.e. they are not a part of normal gameplay. Whether an attempt to fly in Mario Kart DS is successful or not, is dependent mainly on timing and good positioning of the cart. It may take multiple attempts to get any given flying trick to work.

1
Select "Time Trials" from the game selection screen and choose "Luigi's Circuit GCN." Accelerate past the "starting line" and make a sharp U-turn. Wait for a mushroom to come towards the cart and press "B" to jump as the mushroom hits you. If timed properly, the cart will lift up, and will fly through a wall and land in the grass. Note that this trick does not save time or progress the race.

Go to "Time Trials" and select "Rainbow Road" as the course. Just before the part where the "road" swoops up into a "swirl" (where the cart is propelled by "boost strips" on the track), hit the right road rail guards and stop the cart. This will take a few attempts to time properly. When done correctly, the cart will appear to float in midair, before flipping and quickly landing on the other side of the "swirl" section.

Choose "Waligi's Pinball" map under "Time Trials." Stop the cart near the area between the two flippers and wait. When a ball appears, place the cart in front of the ball. When the ball and cart hit the activated flipper, the cart will launch into the air. Use the directional pad to navigate the cart while in the air. As the cart comes down, be sure to navigate it towards the inside of the track (if you land outside the track, the character will disappear and will be reset on the track).
