DIY: Toy Kitchen Sink Set

DIY: Toy Kitchen Sink Set thumbnail
A toy kitchen sink is educational fun.

Kids learn by example, so it makes sense that they would love to play with miniature representations of things in their parents' world. A toy kitchen, complete with sink, provides hours of fun and imaginative play. Fill it with small dishes, empty food packages, and real soapy water, and your kids will think you're brilliant!

Instructions

    • 1

Choose a simple table that is about waist-high to your child and has one shelf under the table top. Hard wood will make it easier to work with. Set the metal bowl upside down on the table top in the center toward the front, where you would like the sink to be. Draw around the bowl with a pencil

    • 2

Use the jigsaw to cut out the circle about 1/4 inch inside the pencil line. Sand all surfaces of the table and paint as desired. If you choose not to paint the whole table, sand the cut surface of the hole and finish with paint. The bowl will sit, right side up, in the hole and can be removed to empty water.

    • 3

Attach the faucet to the table behind the hole.

    • 4

Measure the table from under the table top to the floor and from side to side inside the legs. Cut a piece of fabric that is three inches longer and twice as wide as these measurements for a curtain.

    • 5

Press a 1/4 inch and then a one inch hem in the bottom and both sides of the curtain. Stitch around these seams. Press a 1/4 inch and then a 1.5 inch hem in the top of the curtain and stitch. Slide the curtain rod through the top hem and attach just under the table top to the legs.
