How to Install a Printer Ribbon in a Panasonic KX P1124i
The Panasonic KX-P1124i printer is an impact dot matrix printer that uses a black fabric ribbon cassette to print. The cassette fits into a ribbon cassette carriage located inside the printer under the top and smoke-colored plastic covers. Panasonic designed the KX-P1124i for ease-of-use and near-effortless ribbon installation. As a result, installation only involves accessing the printer’s interior, preparing the ribbon cassette and inserting and securing the cassette into the carriage over the printhead.
Instructions
-
-
1
Turn off and unplug your Panasonic KX-P1124i printer.
-
2
Lift and remove the top cover. Grasp the tabs on the smoked plastic cover and flip the cover toward you to expose the interior of the printer and the ribbon cassette carriage.
-
-
3
Place your fingers against the right side of the carriage and then push the carriage left to the center of the printer.
-
4
Check that the head gap lever on the left top side of the printer is in the "+" position so that the printhead is moved away from the platen. If the lever isn't in the "+" position, slide the lever down to that setting.
-
5
Remove your fabric ribbon cassette from its packaging. Adjust the ribbon tension by turning the knob on the cassette counterclockwise until the ribbon straightens and isn’t loose.
-
6
Hold the cassette in your dominant hand—knob side facing up—above the carriage and printhead at an angle with the rear of the cassette tilted down and the top tilted up.
-
7
Lower the top of the cassette slowly over the printhead so that the ribbon sits between the printhead nose cover and nose and the vertical section of the printhead slides into the space in the cassette. Push the rear of the cassette down into the carriage until it locks into place with a click.
-
8
Adjust the head gap lever to the number setting that works best with your paper: "1" or "2" for thinner sheets of paper or "3" through "6" for thick sheets, multiple sheets or envelopes. When you’re finished, flip the smoked plastic cover back into place and lower the top cover back onto your printer. Plug in and turn on your KX-1124i printer, and begin printing.

Tips & Warnings
Never touch the exposed ribbon on a black fabric ribbon cassette. If you do touch it, wash your hands immediately to prevent ink transfer to cloths or other surfaces.
Stop turning the knob to adjust the ribbon on the cassette as soon as the ribbon straightens. Never overtighten, as doing so can damage the cassette.
