How to Install XP Antivirus Protection for Free

To protect your Windows XP system from viruses, trojans, spyware and other malicious software, it is necessary to not only browse safely and visit trusted sites, but to also have an anti-virus software installed to your computer. While there are popular, top-of-the-line anti-virus software on the market, such as Kapersky AntiVirus and McAfee VirusScan, not everyone can afford to purchase these products.



Fortunately, a wide variety of free anti-virus software is available for Windows XP users. AVG Free, avast! Free Antivirus and PC Tools AntiVirus Free Edition are all examples of anti-virus software you can download and install to your computer at no charge.

Instructions

AVG Free

1. Download AVG Free to your computer using the link in Resources. Double-click the executable file to launch the install wizard. Select your language from the drop-down and click "Next."

2. Click "Install only basic free protection," or click "Recommended" to install a trial copy of AVG Internet Security along with AVG Free. Click "Next."

3. Read the EULA, or End User License Agreement. Check "I have read the license agreement." Click "Accept" to continue. Choose "Standard Installation" from the options. Click "Next."

4. Enter your user name into the appropriate field. Do not make any changes to the "License Number" field. Click "Next."

5. Choose whether or not to install the AVG Security Toolbar or make Yahoo! your default search engine. Click "Next." Click "Finish" to exit from the installer.

Avast! Free Antivirus

1. Download avast! Free Antivirus. Double-click "setup_av_free.exe" to begin installing the program to your computer. Select your language from the drop-down. Click "Next."

2. Read the EULA. Choose whether or not to participate in the avast! community. Click "Next" to proceed. Choose whether or not to install Google Chrome. Click "Next."

3. Click "Finish" to complete installation.

PC Tools AntiVirus

1. Download PC Tools AntiVirus Free Edition. Double-click on "avinstall.exe" to launch the installer. Click "Next" on the "Welcome" page.

2. Click "Install only basic protection," or choose "Install advanced protection" to install Spyware Doctor along with PC Tools AntiVirus. Click "Next."

3. Read the EULA, click "I accept the agreement" and then click "Next." Click "Next" again. Choose whether or not to create a desktop icon. Leave "Automatically install updates" checked. Click "Install."

4. Click "Finish" to exit from installation.

Tips & Warnings

• It is recommended that you have more than one anti-virus software installed to your computer. Disable real-time protection on all of the programs but one. Use any other anti-virus software for scanning your computer only.
