How to Report Car Insurance Scams
Car insurance scams cost everyone who drives a car. When these scams go unreported, insurance rates rise. One way to combat auto insurance fraud is to report the scams to insurance companies and other organizations that specialize in investigating insurance claims for signs of fraud. If you suspect you have been the victim of a car insurance scam, you should do everything you can to report it to the proper authorities.

File a police report describing the suspected car insurance scam. You may be able to make a fraud complaint over the phone, or you may have to visit your local police station to do so. Include as much detail as you can about the incident. Any information can help police in arresting and prosecuting the person committing car insurance fraud.

Contact the National Insurance Crime Bureau (NICB). According to the official website, this organization is the "premier not-for-profit organization dedicated exclusively to fighting insurance fraud and crime." You can contact the NICB by calling 1-800-TEL-NICB, texting the keyword "FRAUD" to 847411 or visiting the NICB website and filling out a fraud report form.
