Increase the virtual memory to an SD card using the "System Properties" utility.

Virtual memory is a section of a disk drive that is used to store application information while the application is no longer in use or when there is not enough physical memory to support all the currently running applications. Virtual memory acts as a overflow area for RAM (Random Access Memory). Virtual memory may be placed on any disk drive that is connected to the system including flash memory such as SD cards.

Instructions

    • 1

      Insert the SD card.

    • 2

Click the "Start" button located in the lower-left corner of the Windows desktop.

    • 3

Type "SystemPropertiesAdvanced" (no spaces) into the "Run" or "Start" dialog box on the Start menu.

    • 4

Press the "Enter" key. This opens the "System Properties" dialog box.

    • 5

Click the "Advanced" tab located in the upper portion of the "System Properties" dialog box.

    • 6

Click the "Settings..." button in the upper portion of the advanced tab. This opens the "Performance Options" dialog box.

    • 7

Click the "Change..." button located under the "Virtual memory" heading on the "Advanced" tab.

    • 8

Click the SD card you wish to place a virtual memory file on from the list of drives in the center of the virtual memory dialog box. You may need to deselect the check box next to the text: "Automatically manage paging file size for all drives."

    • 9

Click the radio button to the left of the "Custom size:" heading beneath the drive listing box.

    • 10

Enter an amount next to the "Maximum size" text box. The amount entered is the new size of virtual memory available on the SD card. It is important not to enter a value larger than the size of the SD card, otherwise a page fault error might occur.

Click the "OK" button to save the settings.

    • 12

Click the "Restart the computer" button when prompted to restart the computer. This prompt occurs after clicking the "OK" button. The computer must be restarted to allow the creation of the virtual memory.
