How to Make Yoyo Flowers
Use fabric yo-yos to adorn quilts, handbags and other fabric projects. You can even glue them to pin backs or hair clips for a handmade accessory. Once completed, the yo-yos resemble delicately pleated flowers. Making these versatile embellishments out of scrap fabric leftover after larger projects allows you to make good use of the material instead of storing it away in a craft bin. Yo-yos can be any size desired, allowing you to use up odd-sized pieces of fabric.
Instructions

1
Draw a 5-inch diameter circle on the back of a piece of fabric with a fabric pencil. Alternately, trace around a small plate or saucer that is close to 5 inches in diameter to ensure you have a perfect circle.
-
2
Cut the circle of fabric out with a pair of sharp scissors. Alternately, use a quilter's rotary cutter to cut out the circle.
-
-
3
Cut an 18 inch length of thread and thread your needle. Knot the end of the thread.
-
4
Fold 1/4 inch of the edge fabric over and sew around it with a running stitch. Avoid pulling on the stitches as you sew, as this puckers the fabric. Stop sewing once you have hemmed around the entire outside edge of the fabric, but leave the needle and thread attached.
-
5
Pull the thread slowly so the fabric begins to pucker. The hemmed edge pulls toward the center of the circle, creating a hole in the center of one side of the yo-yo. Once the circle is even, sew one to two back stitches to secure the yo-yo pleats then knot and cut the excess thread.

Tips & Warnings
Use a compass and draw various-sized circles on a piece of cardboard. Cut out the cardboard circles and use them as a template for different-sized yo-yos.
Sew a button in the middle of the yo-yo to resemble the center of a flower.
