A beautiful rustic coffee table can be built from simple supplies found at a garden center. The table is composed of three basic elements, two cement pedestals and a piece of fieldstone slate. This coffee table will compliment a casual décor style but is attractive enough to sit center stage in the living room. The rustic and durable nature of the slate will easily support a potted plant. Things You'll Need

  • 2 cement pedestals, 16-inches to 18-inches high
  • Large piece of slate, measuring approximately 39-inches by 22-inches
  • Soap
  • Water
  • Stiff brush
  • 1/2-yard heavy wool felt
  • Scissors
  • Epoxy glue

Instructions

      Clean the pedestals thoroughly and slate with soap and water with the stiff brush. Let all pieces dry thoroughly.

      Cut two pieces of felt to the measurements of the bottom of the pedestals. Glue the felt to the bottom of the pedestals to protect the floor from scratches.

      Cut two pieces of felt to fit between the tops of the pedestals and the fieldstone slate.

      Place the felt on the top of the pedestals, but do not glue the felt down. The felt will stabilize and cushion the fieldstone.

      Place the fieldstone on the pedestals.
