How to Make Canopy Bed Without Posts
If you love the look of a canopy bed but can't afford an expensive four-poster bed frame or your room isn't big enough to hold such a large piece of furniture, don't despair. It's possible to create the look of a romantic canopy without bed posts. With two ceiling-mount curtain rods and a long, sheer piece of fabric, you can transform your bed into a gauzy confection worthy of the Arabian Nights. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Mark a faint horizontal line on the ceiling above the bed; it should be 1 inch out from the wall and aligned with the left side of the headboard or mattress. Hold one curtain-rod mounting plate flat on the ceiling butted against this line; use the pencil to make marks on the ceiling through the screw holes in the hardware. Move the mount. Drill starter holes in the pencil marks. Install the curtain-rod mount according to the manufacturer's directions; repeat this step for the mount on the other side of the bed.

2
Measure the length of the bed. Make two faint horizontal lines on the ceiling that distance from the outer edge of the first curtain-rod mounts; use the T-square and the long straightedge to ensure these new marks are parallel to and equidistant from the first two. Hold one curtain-rod mounting plate flat on the ceiling butted against the first new line; use the pencil to make marks on the ceiling through the screw holes in the hardware. Move the mount. Drill starter holes in the pencil marks. Install the curtain-rod mount according to the manufacturer's directions; repeat this step for the mount on the other side of the bed.

Install the curtain rods in the curtain-rod mounts; the rods should be perpendicular to the bed and parallel to each other.

4
Drape the canopy fabric across the curtain rods so it reaches the floor at the head of the bed and down as far as you desire at the foot of the bed.

Tips & Warnings
Hem any raw edges on your canopy fabric.
The fabric should be lightweight and long enough to reach from the floor behind the head of the bed up to the first rod, across to the second rod and down the other side. It may fall to the floor or stop a few feet from the ceiling but it must be long enough that the weight of the fabric will keep it from sliding back over the second rod.
It will be much easier to install the curtain rods and adjust the canopy fabric if you have an assistant.
Wear safety glasses when using the drill.
Keep power tools out of the reach of children.
