How to Clean a Kenmore Elite Dryer

Melissa Rae

The Kenmore Elite line of washers offers features such as steam drying, a tumble-free setting and a lint sensor to notify you when the lint screen is full. Sometimes crayons, pens and other messy items can make it into the dryer, leaving stains behind on the stainless steel drum. Lint builds up on the screen with each use, reducing drying capacity and may even harm the dryer if it's left in place for too long. Kenmore recommends cleaning the lint screen after each use and scrubbing it every six months to remove fabric softener buildup.

Clean the Lint Screen

  1. Open the Kenmore Elite dryer door and lift the lint screen out of its housing.

  2. Roll any lint gently from the screen and discard. If the lint screen has noticeable fabric softener buildup, scrub it under warm running water with a nylon-bristled brush and one or two drops of liquid laundry detergent.

  3. Rinse the lint screen thoroughly and set it aside to air dry.

  4. Place the lint screen back in its housing when dry.

Clean the Dryer Interior

  1. Add equal parts powdered laundry detergent and water to a bowl. Mix it with a spoon to make a paste.

  2. Dip a damp cloth into the paste and wipe away any stains from the inside of the dryer.

  3. Rinse the cloth with clean water. Wipe away any detergent residue from the inside of the dryer.
