How to Care for an Asylum Plant
The technical name for an asylum plant is "Lobularia maritima," otherwise known as sweet alyssum. The plant acquired the slang name of "asylum plant" because it can spread quickly through a garden and drive a gardener crazy. Asylum plants are very easy to care for because their needs for sunlight and water are simple. They are hardy to most weather conditions outside of severe frost. Caring for an asylum plant only takes a few minutes every few days. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Position your asylum plant in a location that receives at least six hours of sunlight per day. Asylum plants do very well in constant sunlight. While they can survive in shaded areas, they will not flower as well without the full six hours of sunlight.

2
Water the plant whenever the top soil feels dry. Under normal conditions, it may only need watering once every 5 to 7 days, but if it is hot and dry out, water more frequently.

3
Apply all-purpose fertilizer to the plant once a month. Follow the fertilizer instructions to determine proper amount.
