How to Work at Hostels in Australia
If you are backpacking across Australia there are a number of jobs you can take along the way to fund your trip. Backpackers often take jobs as fruit pickers or bartenders, but one of the easiest jobs to get is work at hostels across Australia. Hostels are full of travelers like yourself and they are always looking for help. The job generally does not pay much, but you do get free room and board as well.

1
Apply for your work visa before arriving in Australia. This is necessary in order to work legally, and may be checked by your employers. This can be applied for at an Australian embassy or online. A visa can take up to 21 business days to receive by mail. Be sure to allot enough time to receive your visa prior to working.

Search websites for Australian hostels that are on your planned route. Many websites list the type of job openings hostels have open. Hostels offer jobs to travelers as front desk assistance, receptionists, housekeepers and cooks.

Fill out online applications on the hostels' websites for job openings. If there are currently no openings you may be able to be put on a waiting list. If you have experience working in a hostel be sure to tell the manager, it may move you up the list of potential employees.

4
Email the hostel's management. Explain that you are backpacking across Australia and in need of work. If they do not have openings they may know other establishments looking for help.

5
Check noticeboards at the hostels, once you are traveling in Australia. These boards list jobs open at the hostel and in the area. If the hostel is not looking for help, the board may suggest other job opening in the area for travelers.
