1
Determine your eligibility to get an Australian working visa. The DIAC offers a few different types of working visa, and you need to qualify for at least one of them. You can apply as an employer-sponsored worker, professional and other skilled migrant, business person, specialist entrant for a specific activity, doctor or nurse, regional employee, and a member of an air or sea crew. A special pilot scheme is also available for people from Kiribati, Papua New Guinea, Tonga and Vanuatu. Depending on the type of visa, you might need to meet requirements regarding characteristics such as age, health, English language ability, work experience and education level.

2
Complete application forms and gather all the required documents. Some types of working visa might require that other people complete certain steps of the application process. For example, your employer has to nominate the position to be filled if you want to apply for the employer-sponsored worker visa.

3
Pay the applicable charge for the type of working visa you want to apply for. Once you make the payment, DIAC will not refund it.
-
4
Send your application to the appropriate immigration office by post or courier. Otherwise, you can lodge your application online through the DIAC website.
-
5
Wait for any news from the DIAC. When requested, you have to go through a medical examination and request police background checks. Provide the results to DIAC and wait for DIAC to finish processing your application.
