How to Make a King Duvet Cover
A duvet cover is like a pillowcase for a comforter that you can easily remove to launder or to change your decor. You can make a king duvet cover from flat sheets or wide fabric such as quilt backing. Choose a different print or color for each side to create a reversible duvet cover. Update your decor seasonally with two duvet covers that feature different seasonal prints on each side. Pair fall and winter fabrics for one, and spring and summer fabrics for the other.
Things You'll Need

Instructions

1
Wash, dry and iron the fabric or sheets.
-
2
Spread the comforter to be covered flat on the floor and measure the length and width. Add 3 inches to the length measurement and 2 inches to the width measurement. Cut two pieces of fabric to these measurements.
-
-
3
Spread one piece of fabric flat on the floor with the right side facing up. Lay the second piece of fabric right side down on top of the first piece, with all four edges even. Insert pins through both layers every 2 to 3 inches around the perimeter to hold the fabric together.
-
4
Sew along both sides and the top of the duvet cover with a 1/2-inch seam, removing the pins as you come to them. Zigzag between the stitching line and the raw edge of the fabric along both sides and across the top. Trim the seam allowance close to the zigzag stitches.
-
5
Turn the duvet cover right side out through the opening at the bottom.
-
6
Fold over 2 inches of fabric to the inside around the open end of the duvet cover and press. Fold the raw edge of the fabric in to meet the crease and press.
-
7
Pin the hook side of the hook and loop tape to one side of the inside of the opening and sew along both edges of the tape. Pin the loop side of the hook to the other side of the inside of the opening and sew along both edges of the tape.
-
8
Insert the comforter inside the duvet cover through the opening. Spread the comforter out flat within the cover and adjust the comforter and cover for a smooth fit. Press the hook and loop closure neatly together across the end.
