How to Get Rid of Black Mold in a Shower

Your shower is one of the most common places in the home for black mold to grow. Bathrooms tend to have low air circulation and high humidity, so it is no wonder the shower makes for ideal mold breeding grounds. Not only is black mold unsightly, it can have adverse health effects as well. Clean up black mold from your shower sooner rather than later so the mold does not spread further.

Things You'll Need

• Empty spray bottle
• Chlorine bleach
• Ammonia-free dish soap
• Rags
• White vinegar

Instructions

1. Fill a clean, empty spray bottle with equal parts chlorine bleach and warm water. Add a few drops of ammonia-free dish soap, then shake the bottle gently to combine the ingredients.

2. Spray a generous coating of the bleach mixture onto the black mold. Let it sit for 10 minutes, then scrub with a rag to remove the mold.

3. Rinse the shower with clean water. Dry the shower promptly with a dry rag.

4. Spray down the shower with white vinegar to prevent future mold growth. The acid in the vinegar will keep mold from growing and kill any remaining mold spores on the surface. Spray the vinegar every few days to keep mold at bay.
