Instructions

    • 1

Dry up any excess moisture with a few paper towels, if the stain is fresh. Make sure not to rub the stain, as this may push it further into carpet.

    • 2

Pour 2 cups of white vinegar into a plastic bottle with a spray nozzle, and add 1 cup of warm water. Shake up the bottle well to mix the solution properly.

    • 3

Spray the stain generously with your solution and let solution sit on the stain for about 10 minutes to help loosen it up. The vinegar will also fight any smells, as it is also an odor neutralizer.

    • 4

Blot up any solution with a few more paper towels. If towels should become soaked with solution, replace them with new ones. Repeat the previous steps until stain is removed.

    • 5

Allow area to dry, then pour a layer of baking soda onto the stain. Leave baking soda atop the stain for at least six hours, then vacuum it up. If there is still a smell, leave the baking soda on the area for eight hours or overnight.

Tips & Warnings

  • For tough stains mix together 1 cup of white vinegar with 2 tbsp. of baking soda until it forms a pasty solution. Apply to the stained area and allow it to dry on top of the stain. Pour 2 cups of water into a spray bottle, and spray down the carpet so that it is soaking, then wipe away mixture and let carpet dry for a few hours.

  • For tough odors, once stained area is dry sprinkle on baking soda, and also set a bowl of white vinegar next to the stain and leave for at least eight hours. Vinegar and baking soda are both effective in sucking up bad odors and neutralizing the air.
