Instructions

    • 1

Measure the space under the kitchen cabinet where you wish to attach your wine glass rack. If you want to make a free-standing rack or attach it to a wall, you don't need this step. However, wine glass racks that are mounted under a kitchen cabinet are the simplest and easiest to make.

    • 2

Draw a plan for the wooden glass rack and decide the number of rows. Use your wine glasses to check the needed dimension of the racks, knowing that the glasses will be hung upside down. Use these dimensions to order pre-cut pieces of wood and to buy the correct amount of material.

    • 3

Make the center racks for the wine glass holder. Cut the wood bars with a hand saw or a power saw to the length that is needed. In this case, that length is actually the depth of the kitchen cabinets. The dimensions of the wood bars may vary, from ¾ x ½ inch to ½ x ½ inch, depending on your design and preferences.

    • 4

Bevel the edges of the cut pieces of wood, using a table saw tilted to a 5-degree angle. Note that the wood needs to be beveled approximately ¼ inch at the sides and 2 and ¼ inches on the face. That way, you will create a base from which to hang the glasses.

    • 5

Attach all the finished and cut racks on a wood board to finish the structure. Use screws, nails or wood glue for this task.

    • 6

Treat all the surfaces with medium and then fine grit sandpaper to make the edges and the surfaces even and smooth. If you want you can even round the edges to create a softer, more organic look for your glass rack.

    • 7

Install your wine glass rack under the kitchen cabinet or wherever you wish to put it. Use a power drill and screws to attach the wooden wine glass rack to the underside of the kitchen cabinet.

Tips & Warnings

  • To enhance the look of your wine glass holder, paint it with wood paint in a color that will complement your kitchen but at the same time make the structure stand out.

  • Always use extreme caution when working with sharp carpentry tools and power tools and make sure you follow the proper safety procedure.
