Shower doors are useful for some and an annoyance for others. If not wiped down after showers, soap scum can build up. Also mold and mildew develop in the tracks of the folding shower doors and on the seal underneath the door. If all this extra work to keep the doors clean is not what you want to deal with, you can take the door out and replace it with a shower curtain. Does this Spark an idea?

Things You'll Need

  • Screwdriver
  • Caulk remover
  • Razor blade
  • Rags
  • Silicone caulk
  • Shower rod
  • Shower curtain
  • Shower rod rings

Instructions

    • 1

      Cut through the caulk which is sealing the doors to the walls of the shower. Use a razor blade to slice through the caulk.

      Unscrew all the screws with a screw driver. There should be several holding the door frame in place on the shower walls.

      Pull the door frame and doors out of the shower once they are loose.

      Scrape the excess caulk off the shower walls where the door frame was located. You can also use a caulk remover, which can help turn the caulk back to a more pliable state so that you can wipe it off.

      Purchase a shower rod, rings and curtain.

      Put the rings through the shower curtain holes and close the rings.

      Slide the rings onto the end of the rod.

      Hang the curtain rod up on the shower where the doors used to hang. The rod can be tightened in place by twisting the two ends of the rod in opposite directions.

      Fill in the holes where the screws held the shower door frame to the wall with a silicone caulk. Fill the hole and mound it up slightly. Use your finger to smooth is out flat.
