How to Make a Coconut Shell Robot

Coconut shells can be used to create a whimsical robot.

Coconut shells are a versatile and useful natural material that can be used to create many different crafts. One such craft is a coconut shell robot, which uses coconut shells as the main component of the structure. Children will enjoy making their coconut shell robot to use during pretend play or in a puppet show. To make a coconut shell robot, it is important to follow a few necessary steps and guidelines that will ensure that the coconut shells will remain intact.

Things You'll Need

• 4 coconut shell halves
• Hot glue gun
• Hot glue
• 2 large metal nuts
• 2 large metal bolts
• Plastic bag
• Electrical wires

Instructions

1. Place a coconut shell half onto a flat surface so that the inside of the shell faces up. This will be the coconut robot's middle.

2. Place a second coconut shell half above the first one so that the inside of the shell faces down. This will be the coconut robot's head.

3. Use hot glue to attach the coconut shell halves together.

4. Use a hand saw to cut two coconut shells halves in half. This will give you four coconut shell quarters.

5. Hot glue two of the coconut shell quarters onto either side of the robot's middle. These will be the coconut robot's arms.

6. Hot glue the other two coconut shell quarters onto the bottom of the robot's middle. Make sure that the shells are facing down. These will be the coconut robot's feet.

7. Hot glue two large metal nuts onto the front of the coconut robot's head. These will be the robot's eyes.

8. Hot glue two large metal bolts to the tips of the coconut robots arms. These will be the robot's arms.

9. Fill a plastic sandwich bag with electrical wires, any width.

10. Place the wire filled bag inside the open area of the robot's middle.

11. Squeeze a line of hot glue around the circumference of the coconut robot's middle to secure the wire filled bag into place.

12. Allow the hot glue to cool completely before playing with the coconut shell robot.
