Repairing a garden hose is the type of household repair that happens frequently, so it is a good idea to have extra repair items in your garden shed so that your hose isn't out of commission for long. Things You'll Need

  • Garden hose
  • Hose repair kit
  • Utility knife
  • Bucket
  • Warm soapy water
  • Screw driver
  • Plumber's tape

      Cut the hose on either side of the puncture or cut.

      Insert the hose ends into a bucket of warm, soapy water. This will help the hose relax and make it easier to insert the connector pieces.

      Slide the connector into the hose. It should be a tight fit if you have the right size repair kit for your hose.

      Attach the couplers to each side and screw the screws down tight. Wrap the repair area between the couplers in plumber's tape to improve the seal.

  • Store your hoses in a location with limited sunlight as the sun can deteriorate the housing of the hose causing leaks to happen due to cracks and splits. Use an end repair kit for end of hose problems. The repair steps are almost identical.
