You can file your Federal taxes online using EFTPS.

You can pay your Federal payroll taxes online using the U.S. Department of Treasury Electronic Federal Tax Payment System (EFTPS) secure government website. The free service is available to business and individuals 24 hours a day, five days a week. EFTBS can be used to schedule tax payments and pay quarterly estimated taxes for employer tax returns, federal excise tax and foreign taxes. Users can also complete and print tax forms and review their filing history.

  • Secure Internet browser with 128-bit encryption
  • EFTPS enrollment form
  • Taxpayer Identification Number such as an Employer Identification Number or Social Security Number
  • EFTPS Personal Identification Number (PIN)
  • Internet password

      Visit the EFTPS website to enroll online. Make sure that you have the following information available: Taxpayer Identification Number (either your Employer Identification Number if you're enrolling as a business or your Social Security Number if you're enrolling as an individual); Banking account number and transit (or routing) number; and your name and address as they appear on IRS documents. Choose enrollment on the main web page. Choose your payment type: business, individual or federal agency. Enter the information requested. Select submit to enter the information. Within seven business days an EFTPS pin and enrollment number will be mailed to you. The information is mailed to federal agencies within 15 days.

      Obtain your password. Once you receive your EFTPS pin, call the toll-free EFTPS number provided in your information package in order to receive a temporary Internet password. Make sure that you have your taxpayer ID number; EFTPS pin and the last eight digits of your EFTPS enrollment number on hand. You will need to provide this information in order to receive your password.

      Visit the EFTPS website to set up your online tax payments. Select the "Make a Payment" option. Enter your log-in information using your: EIN or SSN, EFTPS pin and Internet password. Upon your first log-in you will be prompted to change the temporary password that you received to a new secure password. Choose the type of tax form, payment type, payment period and amount of payment to be submitted.

      Choose the date that you want the payment to be received. Follow the information screens to complete the rest of the process. Once you have completed making your payment, save a copy of the payment confirmation page. Keep this page for your records as it contains your EFT acknowledgment number.

Tips & Warnings

  • To cancel a payment, select "Payment Options" and "Cancel a Payment" and follow the directions on the website.

  • You can cancel a scheduled payment before 8 p.m. local time, two business days before it is scheduled to be withdrawn from your account.

  • You can make same-day tax payments by arranging a same-day federal tax wire payment through your financial institution. Certain fees and deadlines may apply.
