Prepare your pages to be faxed. Write your letter or document using a word processing program and save it in DOC or PDF format on your computer. Documents that require a signature, are preprinted or have pictures must be scanned into your computer and saved in a JPG format.

If you are faxing for business purposes and anticipate that you will eventually need a full-time electronic faxing service, try a free trial from such services as Trust Fax. You will need to create an account and enter a credit card number for billing purposes after your trial has ended. Most trial periods are for 30 days with a limited number of facsimiles that can be sent or received during that time. Depending on the electronic fax provider, you will have the option of downloading the saved copy to be faxed, cutting and pasting the copy into the body of your fax, or sending it in the form of an email.

Use a free electronic fax service. Free services are good if you only need to send faxes occasionally. Fax Zero, for example, is a free service that allows you to send two faxes a day that are up to three pages in length. Such services are able to offer free faxing because of the advertising that appears on the pages of your fax.
