How to Paint Brick Stencils
Brick stencils allow you to create sharp, professional-looking letters, patterns and designs. However, many amateur do-it-yourselfers have trouble getting the stencils to adhere to brick, which is poorly suited for adhesion. This often allows paint to bleed underneath, leading to sloppy-looking results. In addition, because brick doesn't accept paint very well, it will ultimately shed the new stencil patterns. You must condition the brick with the appropriate type of base coat to promote a durable finish.

Do not paint over bare brick or the finish will peel.
Do not use ordinary adhesives in place of stencil adhesive, as they may leave residue behind.
