DIY Garden Water Feature
Water features can make a plain garden or backyard into an oasis. Water bubbling over rocks or cascading down a rocky waterfall can spruce up any backyard retreat, and these features are simple to make. Water features can be created on any budget and in any size. Small water features can be just as effective as larger ones, and take up less of your garden space. This water feature can be created in just a few hours and requires items from a home improvement store, although you may already have several of the items around your home or garage. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need
- Urn (made for a water feature)

- Scissors
Instructions

1
Unfold the plastic pond liner and lay it in the bottom of the large pot. Terracotta pots work well, in any shape or size, although a wider one works best. Make sure the liner comes up the sides of the pot.
-
2
Trim the liner just under the rim of the pot. You don’t want the liner to show when you have completed the water feature.
-
-
3
Attach one end of the hose to the pond pump, in the output spout.
-
4
Put the pump in the bottom of the lined pot, leaving the hose coming out of the pot in what will be the back of your water feature.
-
5
Place two bricks in the pot on either side of the pump. They should be just slightly taller than the pump.
-
6
Fill the pot with water up to the edge of the plastic liner.
-
7
Place the grill on top of the bricks. Make sure to pull the hose through one of the slots on the grill.
-
8
Put the urn or other clay pot on top of the grill. The urn should have the small hole down, on top of the grill.
-
9
Pull the hose up through the hole in the urn, so the end is inside.
-
10
Put some of the rocks or pebbles inside the urn, with most of them on top of the grill. You do not want the grill to show through. You can also use plants around the pot or urn to make it fit with your garden.

Tips & Warnings
Make sure you check the water level periodically so that it does not all evaporate. If your pump runs without water it could burn out.
