How to Install a Mono Subwoofer Amp
Mono subwoofer amplifiers are optimized for bass. Although many mono amplifiers are not necessarily specified for subwoofers, the reality is that a high power rating and low impedance drive capability means that such an amplifier is ideal for subwoofers. Wiring and installing a mono amplifier differs very little from a conventional stereo or multichannel amp. In fact, less wiring is required.
Things You'll Need
- Mono amplifier
- Preamplifier
- Speaker wire
- Small flat head screwdriver
- RCA cable
- Small wire strippers
Instructions

1
Locate the "subwoofer" or other suitable preout RCA jack on the rear of the preamplifier. An unused tape monitor out works well.
-
2
Push on an RCA cable from the selected preout to the single RCA input on the rear of the mono amplifier. Observe any directional arrows marked on the jacket of the cable. These types of cables are designed to drain interference collected on the cable's shield, preventing subwoofer hum.

Strip 1/4 of the insulation from the speaker wire used to drive the subwoofer. Unscrew the binding posts on the amplifier and subwoofer enclosure until the holes on the center post are visible. Twist the wires tightly. Insert the positive and negative sides on the corresponding outputs on the amplifier. Perform the same connection on the binding posts on the subwoofer. Screw down the binding posts until the wires are secured within the holes on the center post.

Adjust levels to personal taste via the level adjustment potentiometer on the front or rear of the amplifier. Do this by hand, or use a small flat head screwdriver if necessary.
