How to Hang a Punching Bag in Your Room
Punching bags can help you include strength training and muscle toning to your workouts and help reduce stress and tension, but getting to the gym or dojo is not always convenient. Hanging a punching bag in your room lets you reap the benefits of a punching bag in the privacy of your own home. Though punching bags are heavy and bulky, hanging a punching bag is easy to do, so you can get on with your workout.

1
Choose where in the room you want to hang the punching bag. Choose an area that will allow plenty of room for both you and the punching bag to move freely. As you punch or kick the bag it will move quite a bit, so choose an area away from breakables and 3 to 4 feet from any walls.
-
2
Follow the directions on your stud finder to find a ceiling beam, also called a truss, in the area you have chosen. Mark a spot near the middle of the truss with a pencil.
-
-
3
Drill a pilot hole in the truss at the mark you have made using a power drill. Choose a drill bit that is slightly smaller than shaft of the eye bolt you will use to hang the punching bag.
-
4
Screw the eye bolt into the pilot hole all the way up to the eye. You can use a screwdriver placed through the eye of the eye bolt for leverage, or grip the eye bolt with pliers and use them to turn the eye bolt. For this job, use an eye bolt with a long shaft, as this will allow the eye bolt to hold up to the weight of the bag.
-
5
Insert one end of the first "S" hook into the chains that are attached to the punching bag.
-
6
Place the swivel link onto the other end of the "S" hook. A swivel link will allow your punching bag to twist easily with your punches or kicks, which will help prevent breaking off the eye bolt or snapping one of the "S" hooks.
-
7
Slip one end of the second "S" hook on to the swivel link.
-
8
Hang the punching bag on the eye bolt from the other hook of the second "S" hook.
-
9
Wrap both ends of both of the "S" hooks with duct tape to prevent the swivel link or punching bag from slipping out of the hook during use.
