Free Instructions on How to Make a Drawstring Backpack
Drawstring backpacks are easy to pack, easy to close and can hold a great deal of items. Although you can purchase a drawstring backpack at any department store or school supply store, it can be more fun to make your own drawstring backpack at home. When you create your own homemade drawstring backpack, you will be able to select fabrics and accessories that will exemplify and showcase your own personal style.

Instructions
-
-
1
Measure and cut 1 yard of fabric to be 18 inches wide by 24 inches long.
-
2
Fold the fabric in half widthwise, keeping the "good" or nicer sides in.
-
-
3
Sew along the sides.
-
4
Wrap a piece of twine around the top of the rectangle of fabric.
-
5
Fold the open edge of fabric over the twine.
-
6
Sew along the top to conceal the twine inside the top edge.
-
7
Turn the backpack right side out.
-
8
Cut 1 yard of woven ribbon in half.
-
9
Place the ribbons vertically along one side of the backpack.
-
10
Sew the ends of the ribbons onto the backpack. These will be the backpack's straps.
-
11
Place large beads onto the ends of the twine, and knot the end so that they do not come off. This will prevent the twine from escaping inside the top edge.
-
12
Pull the twine drawstring to cinch in together.
-
13
Personalize your drawstring backpack by applying fabric paint or plastic jewels.
