How to Clean Berber Carpets
Berber carpeting is compiled with olefin fibers. Olefin is derived from a chemically constructed substance called polypropylene. Berber carpeting is designed to offer the appearance of handmade carpets that originated in Africa. Berber is not made with free-end fibers like traditional carpeting, so it can't be cleaned using traditional methods. However, you can clean your Berber carpeting using proper techniques. Things You'll Need
- Sponge
- Spray carpet cleaner
- Powder carpet cleaner
- Towel
- High-suction, brush-free vacuum cleaner

Sponge away any wet messes. Berber carpeting is very moisture-resistant, and you will be more successful cleaning spills if you handle them immediately.

Rinse the sponge in water and squeeze out as much excess water as possible. Spray any obvious stains with some spray carpet cleaner and allow it to sit for at least 10 minutes.

Blot the sprayed stains with the damp sponge. Use the weight of your body behind the sponge to draw out as much of the liquid as possible. Repeat this process at least two times. You may wipe stubborn stains with your sponge, just be sure that you wipe with the direction of the weave.

Sprinkle all high-traffic paths with dry carpet-cleaning powder. Work the powder into the weave with a towel, not a brush. Allow the powder cleaner to sit for at least 15 minutes.

Vacuum the carpet using a high-suction, brush-free vacuum cleaner. Standard vacuums have a beater brush that can snag the weave and ruin your carpet. Vacuuming will extend the life of your Berber carpets.

Tips & Warnings
Vacuum at once a week and clean the carpet at least once per month.
Do not scrub the carpet. This will prevent the development of "fuzz."
