1
Calculate the distance you will be from the nearest electrical outlet and plan accordingly. The maximum distance recommended for use with an extension cord is 150 feet, and this requires use of a 14 gauge grounded outdoor cord or thicker.
-
2
Unlock the snowblower. Insert the owners key into the lock located on the handlebars and, while holding the key down, turn it counterclockwise. This releases a safety interlock tab that prevents unauthorized use. This is an important device on electric snowblowers for safety reasons.

Inspect the machine, checking that all safety guards and shields are in place. Be sure the blades and blower are free from foreign objects and debris. Familiarize yourself with the location of cords and switches. Never inspect the machine when it is plugged into the power source.
-
4
Connect your machine to an extension cord and secure the cord on the handlebar loop designed to keep it from pulling free. Plug the extension cord into a covered outdoor socket located close to the area you plan to clear.
-
5
Push the machine to the desired starting location. Depending on your model, you will find a start switch that will turn your blower on. Smaller shovel models generally have a trigger switch on the handle. Larger push models have control panels located near the top of the handles. Locate your switch and click it on.

6
Squeeze the rotor controls on the handlebars to get the auger rotor spinning. Before removing snow, let the machine warm up for 20 to 30 seconds to ensure it's running smoothly. Walk forward slowly while squeezing the rotor controls. You may now clear the area of snow. Be sure that you are always aware of the location of your cord and keep it behind you as you begin to remove snow.
