How to Design a Money Tree

How to Design a Money Tree thumbnail
Money can grow on trees.

It can be tempting to give money as a gift, since it allows the giftee to buy whatever he or she wants. Yet if other people have the same idea, your gift becomes unoriginal. To make your money gift stand out, give a money tree — not the Feng Shui plant, but an actual money-bearing tree. With a money tree, you can give two gifts at once: cash and a decorative conversation piece.

Instructions

    • 1

Find a small branch outside. It should be small enough to fit inside of a vase, but at least 1 1/2 feet tall to resemble a small tree. Remove any leaves (to keep them from dying later) and clean any dirt from the branch.

    • 2

Stand the branch inside a flower pot with its "branches" extending upward. Fill the pot with small rocks until the branch stands on its own. Pour sand evenly into the pot to fill in the spaces between rocks, making it less likely that the branch will fall over.

    • 3

Tie a piece of string tightly around one branch of the money tree. Secure the string with two knots. Allow 2 inches of string to hang down from the branch, then cut the excess. This is where you will hang money from the tree like leaves.

    • 4

Tie a paper clip to the end of the string. Slide a paper bill inside of the paper clip.

    • 5

Repeat steps 3 and 4 with each branch of the money tree. Use a combination of paper bill amounts to add variety to the tree.
