How to Clean Granite Kitchen Countertops
Granite is a natural stone that originates from areas such as Brazil, China and India. The granite comes in a variety of colors, which can coordinate with most home decor. Granite countertops normally come sealed, allowing for easier clean up. The sealant protects the porous stone from liquids absorbing and staining the granite. There are some cleaning products you should never use on granite as you can damage the stone. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need
- Cloths
- Dish towel
- Granite cleaner
- Mild dish soap
- Flour
- Plastic wrap
- Wooden spoon or plastic scraper
- Lint-free cloth

Remove dust and crumbs from the granite countertop by wiping with a damp cloth. Dry the countertop with a clean dish towel.

Spray a granite cleaner over a 3-foot-by-3-foot section of the granite surface. Wipe the cleaner from the countertop with a lint-free cloth. Apply the cleaner to the next section of granite. Fold the lint-free cloth to expose a clean side, and wipe off the cleaner. Continue the same cleaning process until finished with the entire countertop.

Create a paste for stain removal by combining 2 tbsp. mild liquid dish soap and 1 cup of flour. Add water slowly to the mixture, and stir until it forms a paste. Apply the paste to stains on the granite, and cover with plastic wrap. Leave the paste on the countertop overnight.

Remove the plastic wrap and wipe clean with a damp rag. Use a wooden spoon or plastic scraper to dislodge stuck-on food. Wipe the granite dry after cleaning with a soft cloth.

Buff the granite with a clean cloth, wiping in circular motions, until the surface shines.

Tips & Warnings
Use soap sparingly on granite as soap buildup can dull the finish of the stone.
Do not use bleach, ammonia or products containing these ingredients on granite as it can damage the stone.
Do not use abrasive pads on granite as it can dull the surface.
