Owning a bike, whether for fitness, recreation, or transportation, is an investment. Bicycles can range in price from just under $100 up to $12,000 and above. No matter the price of your bicycle, you'll want to ensure that it stays secure if you leave it. A bike lock is the only way to secure your bicycle outdoors, and Kryptonite produces some of the toughest and most popular bike locks on the market today, according to Missing Link.org. A Kryptonite U-shaped lock is made of hardened steel. In order to secure your bike properly, you must know how to mount a Kryptonite lock.
Things You'll Need
- Kryptonite "U" lock
Place the plastic lock mount onto the frame. The mount is designed to be secured to the frame, wherever you prefer. An ideal location for the mount is under the seat, on the bike's upper horizontal frame bar.
Clamp the mount onto the frame, and tighten the screws located on the mount. This will keep the lock-mount from sliding around on the frame.
Depress the lock release button, then slide the lock into the mount. The lock has a plastic piece with a concave dovetail-style groove that fits into the lock mount. Line this up and slide it into the mount while holding the button down.
Tips & Warnings
- Kryptonite manufactures a variety of sizes and diameters of U-shaped locks as well as cables to fit different-size bicycles.
- Never lock your bike through the front tire only; ensure that the lock is secured through the frame.
