How to Paint Plastic Wheel Wells

The plastic inside the wheel wells on your vehicle are the plastic covers on the inside of the well that are mounted onto of the well. To paint the wheel well cover you will need to remove the cover from the well. Every vehicle is different and the process for removing the wheel well cover will be for every vehicle model. Almost anyone with the correct tools and knowledge can complete this job.

Things You'll Need

  • Lug wrench
  • Jack
  • Jack stand
  • Ratchet set
  • Gasoline
  • Spray primer

Instructions

    • 1

      Loosen the lug nuts from the tire that you will be starting with using the lug wrench. Raise the vehicle using the jack and lower the vehicle onto the jack stand.

      Remove the lug nuts from the tire using the lug wrench and remove the tire form of the vehicle. Remove the retaining bolts that are securing the covers to the wheel well and pull the cover from the well.

      Clean the cover using the gasoline and than allow the gas to evaporate completely. Spray a coat of primer onto the cover and allow the primer to dry for two hours.

      Apply three coats of spray paint to the cover and allow the paint to dry for four hour. Replace the cover to the well and the bolts to the cover.

      Tighten the bolts using the ratchet set and replace the wheel to the frame. Replace the lug nuts to the tire and raise the vehicle using the jack. Remove the jack stand from under the vehicle and lower the vehicle to the ground. Tighten the lug nuts using the lug wrench.
