How to Draw a Bed in Easy Steps

How to Draw a Bed in Easy Steps thumbnail
Before you know it, you'll have a bed almost as real as one in a photograph.

Drawing a realistic looking three-dimensional bed is a necessity for some professions in the art and design industry such as in painting, interior design and decor, animation and similar fields. Aside from being an important skill to have, drawing a bed is a necessary lesson on how straight lines and angles, when used strategically, can create objects that have a real genuine quality. Drawing a bed is also a suitable exercise for beginning art students as you don't need to have a lot of skill or experience to do it successfully.

Instructions

    • 1

Draw a straight line at a 45 degree angle that is 8 inches long. Draw another straight line, exactly parallel to it, that is 4 inches away and also at a 45 degree angle. These are the sides of the bed.

    • 2

Connect the two lines that you just drew by drawing two straight lines at the top and bottom. You now have a quadrilateral that's on a slant. Draw a 2 inch vertical line straight down from the bottom right corner of the quadrilateral. Draw a 1 3/4 inch vertical line straight down from the bottom left corner of the quadrilateral. Draw a 1 3/4 inch vertical line straight down from the top right corner of the quadrilateral. These are the legs of the bed.

    • 3

Draw a line starting at the bottom of the last leg you just drew, down to the vertical line jutting down from the front right leg. This will function as the blanket dangling off the side of the bed.

    • 4

Draw a horizontal line from the right front leg to the left front leg, starting from the point where the last line that you drew ends. This will be the blanket dangling off the front of the bed.

    • 5

Draw a semi-circle that is 4 inches high from the top right corner of your quadrilateral to the top left corner of your quadrilateral. This will be the headboard.

    • 6

Soften the sides of your quadrilateral by drawing slightly curved lines on top of them. Keep in mind that you're trying to portray the soft lines of a comforter or blanket that don't lie perfectly straight on the bed.

    • 7

Draw two pillows just under the headrest. These two pillows should look like two small identical rectangles with extremely soft, slightly curved lines. Feel free to color them in.

    • 8

Draw a couple wrinkles on the blanket of the bed to show its texture. Do this by drawing very slight half smile shapes of varying sizes.
