How to Prepare Excel Spreadsheets for Crystal Xcelsius
To prepare Microsoft Excel spreadsheets as data sources for the Crystal Xcelsius application, the spreadsheets must be prepared in a separate application named Xcelsius Prepare. Xcelsius Prepare is an application designed specifically for the purpose of converting Excel spreadsheets to the Crystal Xcelsius dashboard format for use as performance indicators in the Xcelsius program. A 30-day free evaluation version of Xcelsius Prepare is available for download (see Resources). The price of the full-version software is $195, as of July 2010.

Install and Set Up Xcelsius Prepare

Download the Xcelsius Prepare zip file and save to the hard drive.

Right-click the zip file and select “Extract To.”

Select or create a folder for the installation files where the unarchived files from the zip file will be saved and click “OK.”

Double-click the “Setup.exe” file in the installation folder to start the setup process.

Check the checkbox in front of each language to install and click “Next.”

Click “Next” to accept the default installation folder or click “Browse” to navigate to another installation folder, then click “Next.”

Click “Next” at the “Start Installation” screen. The program will install and a progress bar will monitor the installation. When complete, a notification window will appear.

Click “Finish” to close the installation wizard.
Import Excel File into Xcelsius Prepare

Click the “Xcelsius Prepare” desktop icon created during installation.

Click “Continue” to continue with the evaluation or click “Purchase” or “Enter Key Code” to activate the full version of the software. Click “Next.”

Click the “Data” option from the top navigation bar, then click “Import.” A file selector will open.

Navigate to and click on the Excel file to import. Click “OK.” The Excel file will load into Xcelsius Prepare.

Click the “Format” option on the top navigation bar and select the Crystal Xcelsius report option for which the Excel spreadsheet will be formatted. Click “OK.” The Excel file will be prepared for use in Crystal Xcelsius.
