1
Measure the pillow with a measuring tape to determine the size of the pillow. Though pillows are typically classified as “King,” “Queen” or “Regular,” fitting a pillowcase requires making sure there is enough fabric to completely cover the pillow. Since pillows can be made smaller by squishing down the fabric with use, measuring the pillow can ensure a good fit.
-
2
Mark the measurements of the pillow on the fabric, adding an extra inch around on three sides and an extra four to five inches on one of the short sides. The extra inches on the one short side will be used for the hem of the pillowcase. Cut out two matching pieces of fabric.

3
Place the fabric so the wrong side of the fabric is facing outward and the right sides are facing toward each other. Line up the fabric so that it is even and then pin the fabric together along three sides, leaving one of the two short sides free of pins.
-
4
Using a sewing machine, sew up three sides of the fabric. Make sure the sewing machine is around 1/2-inch to 3/4-inch from the edge of the fabric to avoid sewing too close to the edge.
-
5
Fold the side that is not yet sewn down around 2 to 2 and 1/2 inches, making sure to fold it so that when it is turned right side out, the fold will show as doubled over fabric from the outside. Make sure to pin this so that the two sides are not pinned completely together. Sew the hem, making sure that the top of the pillowcase is not sewn together and it can open.
-
6
Turn the pillowcase right-side out. Add decorations as preferred, such as embroidery.
