How to Play Indoor Football
Indoor football is played on a smaller field with only six or seven players on offense and defense at a time. The Arena Football League (AFL) and the American Indoor Football Association (AIFA) are professional leagues that help set many of its rules for indoor football--they play on 50-yard fields that are 85 feet wide and usually set up on carpeted hockey rinks. But you can play indoor football at the college intramural or in a community league, where the league can set the rules according to the wants and needs of the teams and players.

1
Join or start an indoor football team. Each league has its own rules. For instance, the Maryland Youth Football League stipulates the size of footballs, sportsmanship regulations, and charges a $60 penalty if your team forfeits a game.
-
2
Study your league’s rules and regulations. The rules of indoor football will allow for certain trick plays as well as limit the kinds of defenses or offenses you can run.

3
Draw up a playbook that reflects the talents and skills of your indoor football team. You shouldn’t design deep-passing plays for a quarterback who lacks accuracy on deep throws. Pass routes for a specific play should give the quarterback multiple options: For instance, all five receivers shouldn’t run deep on the same side of the field.

4
Practice offensive and defensive plays. You can design pass plays, running plays, and zone coverages for defense. You should also work on blocking schemes so that players are coordinated when running plays. The running game usually only takes up about 10 percent of offense plays but they can be highly successful if they are well-rehearsed and executed correctly.

5
Attend football games. As a player, you should try to maintain your cool no matter what the score. As a coach or leader of the team, try to keep your team focused on finishing each game and playing well no matter what the score is. Attending games allows you to learn from other teams in a less-stressful environment.
