How to Get Rid of Cat Pee Smell From Hardwood Floors
Cat pee smell is strong and difficult to get rid of. If you are able to clean up the pee as soon as the accident happens, it is not tough to take care of the mess, but there is usually a lingering smell. If an accident happens and goes unnoticed, it will be tough to find and even tougher to eliminate. The best plan of action is to tackle the spots as soon as they occur. Things You'll Need
- Paper towels
- Hydrogen peroxide
- Enzymatic cleaning solution
- Laundry basket

Blot any noticeable urine up with paper towels. If your hardwood floors do not have a finish on them, act quickly to absorb the urine.

Pour hydrogen peroxide on clean paper towels and place over the affected area. Allow the paper towels to sit on the stain overnight. In the morning, remove the paper towels and clean the area using dish soap and warm water, then wipe with a dry paper towel. This will remove the stain as well as most of the pee smell. You may need to repeat this step two to three times before the spot is completely gone.

Spray an enzymatic cleaner on the spot. This should fully eliminate the smell of cat pee. Before spraying the spot with the enzymatic cleaning solution, test for color-fastness in an inconspicuous area.

Tips & Warnings
Cats are drawn to the pee smell and may come back to the same spot to urinate again; place a laundry basket upside down over the area to cover it while treating. This will deter the cat from returning yet still allow airflow.
Unfinished hardwood floors are porous and absorb cat pee smell quickly. You may need to sand the area and put a coat of finish on the floor to get rid of the smell.
