Use your wedding cake as inspiration for your card box.

Card boxes are a common element at wedding receptions and are used to hold cards and monetary gifts given by the guests. Having a decorative card box at your wedding reception will add style and personality to your day. Making your own wedding cake shaped card box is moderately easy to do and will add a homemade touch to your reception decor. You can create your own one-of-a-kind wedding cake card box using basic craft supplies.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure a circle on the large hatbox that is 1 inch smaller than the circumference of the medium hatbox. Trace the circle with a pencil and cut it out using the box cutter.

    • 2

Measure a circle on top of the medium hatbox that is 1 inch smaller than the circumference of the small hatbox. Trace the circle with the pencil and cut it out using the box cutter.

    • 3

Measure a rectangle on top of the small hatbox that is the length of a standard envelope and 1 inch wide. Trace the rectangle with a pencil and cut it out using the box cutter.

    • 4

Paint the entire surface of all three hatboxes with the acrylic craft paint. Allow the paint to dry, then check to see if the finish is completely opaque. Continue applying coats of craft paint until the finish is smooth and opaque with none of the original box color showing through. Allow the paint to dry thoroughly before proceeding.

    • 5

Line the edge around the circular cutout in the largest box with glue. Carefully position the medium hat box over the hole, and press it down firmly onto the glue.

    • 6

Repeat step five to attach the small hatbox to the medium hatbox.

    • 7

Apply a thin line of glue around the outside bottom edge of the large hatbox. Carefully wrap a string of artificial pearls around the hatbox on top of the glue. Repeat this process along the bottom edges of the other two hatboxes.

    • 8

Glue silk flowers in your wedding colors to the card box for decoration. You may choose to apply the flowers on each tier or concentrate them at the top of the box to resemble a cake topper.
