1
Rub the burn mark softly with fine-grade sandpaper to get rid of any singed fibers. Then vacuum the area to remove ash and loose fibers.
-
2
Go to an area where your carpet is hidden, like beneath a baseboard or in the back of a closet. Trim some fibers from the carpet so you have a small ball of fibers to cover the area that was burned.

3
Apply a few pea-sized drops of cement glue to the area where you removed the burn mark and then carefully apply the fibers you cut to the glue.
-
4
Place a heavy book atop the area and leave it for at least an hour to allow all glue and fibers to dry together.
-
5
Remove the book and trim any fibers that extend above the level of the carpet, so that the newly patched area matches the rest of the carpet.

Tips & Warnings
If you have a large area that is burned, buy a patch of matching carpet. Cut out the burned area with a carpet cutter and replace it with a new patch of carpet, using heavy-duty floor glue.
Never try to rub or blot out burn marks as you would a stain. This will just spread the soot and ash around, making a large stain to accompany your burn mark.
