1
Compare the rates of other cleaning businesses by calling them and asking them what they charge. You do not need to disclose that you clean houses. Ask the other cleaning services what they include in the price. Make a chart of local cleaning businesses and how much they charge so that you can price yourself in the same range.

Figure out how long it takes to completely clean one particular area. Clean several of your friends' and family members' kitchens, living rooms and whole homes to see how long it takes you to complete each task. This is also a way to get references when you need some for your business. Offer family discounts so that you can use their homes to see how long it takes you to complete each task. Use a timer while you clean and then develop a chart on the computer or graph paper that shows how long it takes for you to complete each task.

3
Decide how much you need to make per hour or how much you will charge per task. Consider charging customers more for a first visit because areas may be more heavily soiled if they haven't been cleaned regularly. Use your chart and write down the prices. Remember that you need to think about the cost of supplies. Figure the costs into your rate. You will need to pay business taxes so consider that when setting your rate.

4
You can charge customers by task or by hour depending on the size of the job. Create a chart that shows both your hourly rate and your rate per task. This way you can show potential customers their payment options. For example, if they have a huge home and need the whole house cleaned they may wish to hire you by the hour. However, if they have a small home and they just wish the kitchen or bathroom to be cleaned they may want to hire you by task.
